Chalmers has been taking part in the Shell EcoMarathon event for the past 5 years. we participate each year with an aim of creating a sustainable world : maximum efficiency with a minimum usage of resources.

The team 2020 consists of 10 members who are Master’s students at the Chalmers University of technology. The team is headed by Professor. Sven Andersson and will guide the team in this big journey. The team is divided into four different subgroups: Body and Drive train, Power Train, Electrical and Communications.

A Honda Gx35 CC internal combustion engine which runs on ethanol is used for the competition. The challenge is to identify and run the engine at its best efficiency and convert this mechanical energy to electrical energy by coupling it to an electric generator, which in turn will be stored in a super capacitor.

Body & Suspension

Body and drive train sub group deals a wide of aspects from tunnelling engine power to wheels, holding the vehicle up with rigid suspension, steering wheels, shaping up the body to aerodynamics and manufacturing of all the above components.

ELECTRICAL & Electronics

The responsibilities of the team include research and development of hybrid electric systems and components (motor, dc-dc converter, supercapacitor and their control systems), testing and analyzing parts utilizing actual car and bench testing. This will include hands-on assembly/disassembly of components, testing electro-mechanical systems and meeting with other departments to review technical issues, researching new technologies and proposing future works.

This division is mainly responsible for the Internal & External communication. And will also focus on Team Building, Social Media Management, Procurement & Finance, Marketing and Business Management.
